As promised in my last post here is my favourite project, This Way Up cushion, from my latest book. I am really loving this cushion!!! I’ve popped it on my work chair and each morning when I sit in the hot seat it makes me smile.
This Way Up Cushion
The cushion is a great example of how you can mix the different blocks in the book together. This (may I say fabulous?) cushion is made from three of the block designs in the book. I’ve used white and light grey as the background colours and then a rainbow of colours for the arrows and lines. The blocks I’ve used are:
Fading Arrows
This is an Intermediate skill level pattern with so many colour options. You can work each of the triangles in the same colour for a different look to this block.
Arrows
Arrows is another Intermediate skill pattern. You can make this block as a 6″ square or, by ending on row 14, you can make a 6″ x 3″ rectangle. Also, by swapping over colour A and B after row 14 you can make a chevron design instead of two arrows – like in the cushion. I love the flexibility of this little block!
Neat Stripes
Neat Stripes is a really simple block which is really good for using up little scraps of yarn. Again, this is an Intermediate skill level pattern because it uses working in the front and back loops to get those neat lines between colours.
Although the blocks are rated Intermediate skill level there are no difficult stitches – it’s all about managing your colours with the blocks in this book. Both the front and back of the cushion are identical and the finished cushion measures 45cm x 45cm (18″ x 18″). Here it is again, I just LURVE it!
