Moroccan Tiles Rug Crochet AlongDeramores CAL 2020

The Moroccan Tiles Rug Crochet Along is inspired by beautifully intricate Moroccan tiles.

The rug is made with one large square which is then added to creating the central section.  Then it’s bordered by squares in four different designs. The finished rug is then edged with a very simple border and tassels to finish off.

When completed the rug measures 90cm x 144cm and the pattern is in written format using UK crochet terminology. The skill level is Intermediate/Advanced but would suit very Adventurous Beginners, people who have made my other CAL projects, for instance.  

The CAL ran during 2020 for 6 weeks on the Deramores website.  Since Deramores closed in 2022 you can purchase the full pattern here on my website.  The pattern is now available in both UK and US crochet terminology instead of just UK.

There are three colour options for you to choose from using the award-winning Deramores Studio DK yarn; Sunset, Lagoon and Antiquity.  The photographed rug is made using the Sunset colour pack but I’m seriously thinking of making another in Antiquity!  You can still purchase Deramores yarn over on the Love Crafts website – at least for now.  Any DK weight or Light Worsted weight yarn will work for this pattern so if you have problems sourcing the yarn use something else!

Sunset Colour Pack

Morocco is a land of stunning sunsets where the sky lights up in shades of yellow, pink and magenta all made more vibrant by Saharan dust. I just had to use those colours!

The shades are:

Lagoon Colour Pack

I’ve picked shades of blue inspired by the shades of water in Oualidia lagoon for this colour pack; beautiful watery blues and greens. 

The shades are:

  • Topaz
  • Indigo
  • Slate
  • Green Tea
  • Aqua Green
  • Ocean
  • Frost
  • Blue Velvet

The colour pack contains 13 balls of Deramores Studio DK.

Antiquity Colour Pack

I’ve picked more muted tones for this colour pack to convey a sense of age. The colours are inspired by the dye vats of the Chouara Tannery in Fez which has been in use since the 11th century.. 

The shades are:

  • Shiraz
  • Pearl
  • Indigo
  • Paprika
  • Latte
  • Butterscotch
  • Peach
  • Storm Cloud

The colour pack contains 13 balls of Deramores Studio DK.
