Halloween Pumpkin Crochet Pattern

Hot off the hooks is my latest pattern – a Halloween pumpkin crochet pattern!  My Chequerboard Pumpkin pattern is bold, fun and out just (only just) in time for Halloween.

Its amazing how time passes so quickly.  I thought up this design in September and its taken me ages to get it published.  Everything seems to be taking me longer than I expect this year. Is it just me being useless or is it a Covid/zombie apocaplyse/the worlds gone mad sort of thing? 😕

I’ve used Cascade 220 Superwash for my pumpkin but you can use any light worsted or DK weight yarn.  The pumpkin is worked in the round in two colours and those colours are stranded – like in Fair Isle knitting – rather than working over the carried yarn.  The top and bottom are stitched closed like a drawstring purse before the stalk, tendril and pumpkin flower are added on top.  You’ll need a good amount of polystuffing or any stuffing you can find.  For my pumpkin I reused the innards of an old cushion!

  • Skill Level = Easy
  • Yarn Weight = Light Worsted / DK
  • Hook Size = 4mm (G)

I hope you love the pattern and have a wonderful Halloween – even if you are in lockdown like me!  There’s always pumpkin pie and scary films and who says you can’t do fancy dress while staying home anyway!

Happy Hooking!
